Making the Most of Your Gap Year (or Two) is Tuesday, April 12, 2016 at 4:00 p.m. in Lincoln Hall 1092. Currently more people are applying to law school after 1 - 2 years of working rather than going straight through from undergrad. How can students and alumni maximize their time, plan ahead, and use that year + to make themselves into even better law school candidates? Find out as a game plan is provided for how to continue community involvement, how to gain relevant skills no matter what industry you work in, and how to plan ahead to create a timeline for a working professional to apply to law school. Hear from a current 3L law student and from a 2014 law school graduate who each worked full time prior to attending law school. Ask questions about their experiences transitioning back into graduate education. A must-see for anyone planning to apply to law school one or more years after graduation!
Applying to Law School: A Workshop for Fall Applicants is on Monday, April 18, 2016 at 4:00 p.m. in 514 Illini Union Bookstore Building. This workshop is designed for juniors or seniors planning to apply to law school this fall or next, although all students are invited. It will cover each element of the application process. You’ll learn how to use the Credential Assembly Service account while covering: Letters of recommendation and how to get them; transcripts and how they are summarized; creating a law school resume; application fee waivers; and budgeting for application expenses. This workshop will not cover the personal statement and resume; attend the separate Perfecting the Personal Statement and Resume workshop for pointers on those items. There will be time for Q&A to answer any questions about the application process.
Thanks to Jamie Thomas-Ward for these information items.
