Kevin Reader at Unit One/Allen Hall 10/23-10/27/16: Kevin Reader earned his Master of Arts in Theatre from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where he also performed with Inner Voices Social Issues Theater and the comedy troupes Spicy Clamato and Potted Meat. For the past seven years he has been producing and performing shows, podcasts, events and games in Chicago. He serves as the Artistic Director for Cards Against Humanity and is the founder of the comedy troupe, The Nerdologues. He has performed improv and sketch comedy with Second City, iO, UCB, San Fran Sketchfest, Chicago Sketchfest, PAX and GenCon. All events are free and open to the public and take place at Allen Hall, 1005 W. Gregory Drive, Urbana. Free parking is available in the garage across the street.
Sunday, 10/23 at 7:00 p.m. – Kevin Reader: Heart and Hustle (South Rec Room)
Maintaining a life as a creative isn't always easy, and there's never a clear path laid out in front you. Hear about Kevin’s journey from the University of Illinois to where he is now, and how he’s learned from his triumphs and stumbles along the way.
8:00 p.m. – Game Night (South Rec Room)
Let's play some games together! Kevin will bring some of his favorite indie board games and introduce them to people. A fun and casual way to hang out and get to know each other. Also, snacks.
Monday, 10/24 at 7:00 p.m. - Improv (South Rec Room)
Come and learn the basics of Improv comedy. Kevin has studied and performed at iO, Second City, and the Annoyance theaters. He'll teach some basics of improvisation from the perspective of making bold choices and having fun with them.
Tuesday, 10/25 at 7pm – U of I Comedy Night (Main Lounge)
We're bringing all of U of I's comedy groups to Allen Hall. Kevin will host a night of U of I's ensemble based comedy groups. Featuring Spicy Clamato, DeBono, The Hive Society Improv, The Phoenix Improv Company and more!
Wednesday, 10/26 at 7pm - Sketch Comedy (South Rec Room)
Interested in Sketch Comedy? Comedy is subjective and everyone has their own style. Kevin will host a brief writing workshop. Participants will explore some classic scene types, then we'll work through some writing prompts.
9pm – Board Game Developer Night (151 Allen)
Interested in board games? Kevin will bring some new games he is working on and developing for play testing. There will also be finished games to play as well!
Thursday, 10/27 at 7pm - Storytelling Workshop (South Rec Room)
Everyone has a story to tell. Kevin will be joined by fellow podcast producer and U of I grad, Eric Garneau*. They will guide you through a brief workshop on writing personal stories from your perspective and point of view. Full of writing prompts and group discussion.
9pm - Your Stories Live! A live storytelling podcast featuring you (South Rec Room)
Your Stories is a live storytelling show-turned-podcast hosted by Chicago sketch comedy group the Nerdologues and generated by our wonderful audience! We're kinda like the Moth, except instead of competition you'll just hear a bunch of people earnestly geeking out about what they love and who they are. Celebrating its fifth anniversary in December, Your Stories can be found on nerdologues.com and iTunes.
*Eric Garneau graduated University of Illinois in 2005 with a double major in English and Philosophy. He was also a DJ at WPGU! He started working with Kevin and the Nerdologues in 2011 and currently enjoys the heck out of his role as podcast producer and show host.
