The Mayo Clinic’s Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship (SURF) program places undergraduate students from across the U.S. in a host lab at a Mayo Clinic location. For 10 weeks, these students become fully-immersed in the research and culture of major medical center. A highly competitive program, hundreds of applications were submitted for less than 100 SURF positions in summer 2016.
However, the odds are in Illinois undergrads’ favor. Seven SURF fellowships have been exclusively reserved for University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign students for summer 2017. Additionally, these SURFs experiences are underwritten by a gift from the Brandt Family and the Mayo Clinic and Illinois Alliance.
Pre-selection applications for these seven Illinois-reserved spots are accepted until December 1, 2016. All the details on how to apply can be found at the Mayo Clinic and Illinois Alliance website: http://mayoillinois.org/education/undergraduate-student-opportunities.
