On Sunday, March 5, at 3:00 p.m., Krannert Center will present a very special, invitation-only concert by the National Symphony Orchestra of Ukraine in the Center's world-renowned Foellinger Great Hall. As part of Krannert Center’s commitment to breaking down the barriers to explorations of classical music, and as a celebration of the enthusiasm of students of all ages for classical music, this outstanding performance will be presented FREE OF CHARGE for students from middle school through graduate school and their accompanying teachers and parents.
The orchestra will perform Stankovych's Suite from the ballet The Night Before Christmas; Schumann's Piano Concerto in A Minor, Op. 54; and the beloved Symphony No. 9 in E Minor, Op. 95, "From the New World" by Antonin Dvorák, written during the composer's residence in the United States in the 1890s.

This exclusive free event will serve as a celebratory encore to the orchestra’s performance for the general public on Saturday, March 4. (Tickets for the March 4 public performance can be purchased now; prices range from $10 to $47.) Tickets that are requested and then unused can prevent other students from attending. For this reason, KCPA asks that you request only what you know you can use. The maximum number of tickets that can be requested at one time is 20. If you request 20 and find you can use them all, you are welcome to request additional tickets. Founded in 1918, the Grammy-nominated National Symphony Orchestra of Ukraine is considered one of the finest symphony orchestras in Eastern Europe. The orchestra was entrusted with the premieres of works by Prokofiev, Shostakovich, and Khatchaturian, among others, and has worked with such storied conductors and soloists as Leopold Stokowski, Artur Rubinstein, Yehudi Menuhin, Isaac Stern, Gidon Kremer, Jose Carreras, Juan Diego Flores, and more. Since 1993, the ensemble has released more than 100 recordings, to high international acclaim. Featured soloist Alexei Grynyuk studied in Kiev and at the Royal Academy of Music while garnering significant international recognition, including first prizes at the Diaghilev Competition (Moscow), the Vladimir Horowitz Competition (Kiev), and the Shanghai Piano Competition. In his increasingly international career, Grynyuk is noted for his "amazing personality and absolutely transcendent virtuosity" (Le Figaro).
