The Mayo Clinic’s Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship (SURF) program places undergraduate students from across the nation in a host lab at Mayo Clinic. For 10 weeks, students become fully-immersed in the research and culture of major medical center. Since 2012, five or more SURF fellowships have been exclusively reserved for Illinois students. These SURFs are sponsored through the Mayo Clinic & Illinois Alliance and their home department at Illinois. They are now accepting applications for Illinois pre-selection for the 2018 SURF Program. Application Instructions: Complete the Illinois pre-selection application at http://mayoillinois.org/education/undergraduate-student-opportunities by December 1, 2017. Students will need to upload a personal statement and current transcript or web academic history (see the application page for details). Letters of recommendation are required from two references. Letters should be sent as .pdf files directly to Maggie Berg at meberg@illinois.edu. Complete the Mayo Clinic online application at https://app.applyyourself.com/AYApplicantLogin/fl_ApplicantLogin.asp?id=mayo-gsp by February 1, 2018. Students will use the same materials for this application as were used for the pre-selection application.
IT and Bioinformatics Summer Internship at Mayo Clinic:
Bioinformatics Systems Unit within the IT Division of Research and Education Systems Support at the Mayo Clinic at Rochester, MN, has an ongoing summer internship opportunity for Illinois IT students. Specific position and project descriptions focus on the Center For Individualized Medicine (CIM) scientific programs with the goal of discovering and translating research into clinically viable solutions for patients. The internship consists of working on tasks within multiple project areas of the Bioinformatics Systems Unit.
