As part of the celebration of the Japan House’s 20th Anniversary year, they are happy to announce we are expanding our public outreach program by opening our doors on the third Saturday of every month in 2018 for public tours and general shopping, in addition to our ongoing public tea ceremonies!
During A Look at Japan House from the Inside Public Tour, guests will learn the history of Japan House, discuss design elements and aesthetics, and become aware of the significant contributions of Japan House going back to the original house in the 1960’s. Enjoy the beautiful Japanese gardens from the inside as you view the three Japanese tea rooms and historical photos in the general teaching area, as well as a rotating display of artifacts and treasures. See the equipment and elements of a traditional Japanese tea ceremony, as well as be introduced to other special events and workshops available to the public throughout the year.
Tours will be at 11 am, 12 pm, 1 pm on the third Saturday of the month, starting with January 21, 2018. Duration: 20-30 minutes. Cost: FREE ($5 donation encouraged), tours are limited to 25 guests, and reservations are recommended. For a more immersive experience, a tour followed by a traditional Japanese Tea Ceremony is held twice in the afternoon on those days, at 2:00 and 3:00 pm. These tickets often sell out, so reservations are highly recommended!
Japan House offers a select, but unique variety of Japanese-inspired handmade, imported items, and matcha tea for sale. Please feel free to stop by 11 am to 1:45 pm on a third Saturday to shop at your convenience.
