Join us on Tuesday, February 13, 2018 from 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. in 124 Burrill Hall for a public screening of a film from CHP alumnus David Franklin, who is the Director, Producer, and Editor of “As Far As The Eye Can See” – he will introduce the film on his national tour and take questions after the screening.
In the tradition of “Tender Mercies” and “Five Easy Pieces,” “As Far As The Eye Can See” tells the story of Jack Ridge (Jason London, “Dazed and Confused”), a former piano prodigy once mentored by the renowned pianist Van Cliburn, who has retreated to his family's farmland in north Texas. His wife (Jenni Tooley, “Boyhood”) has left him, and the week of the annual county piano competition, he punches his fist into a wall, threatening to derail his first public performance in years and burn his last remaining bridge to the town he grew up in.
“As Far As The Eye Can See” was named “Best Texas Film” at the Lone Star Film Festival, and the star, Jason London, was named “Best Actor” at the Hill Country Film Festival.
CHP alumnus David Franklin, who graduated from the UI and CHP in 1992, has worked for shows “48 Hours” and “CBS News Sunday Morning.” He used winnings from his appearances on "Jeopardy!" to finance "Contestant," his short about a man about to appear on a game show. While on campus, David Franklin was a writer for the “Daily Illini.”
*Students do not need to register for this public screening, but may receive SAS credit if they attend and sign-in at the program.*
