Learn to make wagashi, traditional Japanese sweets served during tea ceremony, with author and Professor Emeritus, Kimiko Gunji.
Japan House released “The Art of Wagashi: Recipes for Japanese Sweets that Delight the Palate and the Eyes” earlier this year, and since then, customers from around the world have been ordering the cookbook to learn more about this unique art form.
Join Japan House as they host a hands-on workshop to hone your wagashi making skills! Guests will be introduced to some of the basic techniques to start, then will practice more advanced wagashi making skills. Seasonal favorites of kuri manjyu/kirian manjyu (cut and shaped an-filled wagashi), ringo manjyu (apple-shaped wagashi), imoyokan (sweet potato wagashi) and kohakukan (amber wagashi) will be made.
Guests will be served tea along with the sweets to enjoy at the end of class, or can take them home to enjoy with a loved one. Cookbooks will be available for purchase ($38 plus tax), or bring in your already-purchased wagashi cookbooks to be signed by the author.
No experience required. Space is limited to 10 guests.
