Project Summary: The Rail Transportation and Engineering Center (RailTEC) Rail Safety and Risk Group in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering is seeking undergraduate research assistants with interest in railway engineering. This role will involve applying engineering, analytical, and operational principles to railway transportation safety projects. Students will gain hands-on experience in railway safety data analysis, report writing, and the application of engineering knowledge to solve real-world railway safety problems.
Minimum qualifications and preferences:
Interested in transportation risk analysis. Basic knowledge of statistics (equivalent to STAT 400/CEE202). Basic to intermediate programming skills (preferably Python, R, Excel VBA). Self-motivated, and ready to learn.
Expected work hours:
Approximately 5 to 10 hours per week (flexible)
Major preference:
Civil Engineering, Statistics, or other majors but interested in railway engineering and statistics
Compensation: This is a paid research experience.
