Dr. Brown with the Carle Illinois College of Medicine is recruiting undergraduate students for multiple computational psychiatry projects for Spring and/or Summer 2024. These projects are best suited for junior and senior undergraduate students with some mathematical and computational modeling experience who are interested in psychiatry/medicine (pre-meds), computational neuroscience, and/or machine learning. However, any major is eligible if you have the relevant experience.
The main project is to make a simple mathematical/computational model (e.g. using Matlab or Python or Julia) of depression and bipolar disorder. If you have some basic experience with differential equation modeling and/or machine learning you should have the pre-requisite knowledge. Dr. Brown will teach you the specific modeling techniques necessary as well as the relevant aspects of neuroscience and psychiatry.
Selected students will be offered 1-2 course credits (5-10 hours of work per week, respectively) for Spring and/or Summer 2024. A scientific publication is an expected outcome of this project
