The Speech Perception Laboratory (https://spl.shs.illinois.edu/) is seeking students interested in contributing to projects focused on hearing and cognitive health and technology. Projects in the Speech Perception Laboratory (SPL) focus on how we understand speech in challenging listening environments and how those abilities change across the lifespan and due to hearing loss.
The SPL seeks motivated students who are interested in engaging in projects ranging from the development of clinical screeners of auditory and cognitive function, to acoustic modeling of noisy environments and hearing aid processing, to application of speech-to-text and AI systems to augment listening and analyze/predict listener behavior.
Preference will be given to students with prior experience/coursework in at least one of the following:
- speech acoustics
- hearing science
- cognitive science
- signal processing
- Matlab
- Python
- Large Language Models
This opportunity is offered for 2-3 credits for 6-9 hours per week, for Fall 2024 / Spring 2025 / Fall 2025.
