Frequent testing is just one part of the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign’s comprehensive COVID-19 response ecosystem. Developed by Illinois experts, the saliva-based COVID-19 test directly detects the coronavirus that causes COVID-19 in saliva samples, and gives rapid results.
70,000 tests a week
All students, faculty and staff who reside in the local community are required to test. During the Fall 2020 semester, the university administered as many as 70,000 tests a week.
Over one million tests since July 2020
In December 2020, the university administered its one millionth saliva-based COVID-19 test since initiating a broader management program in July 2020.
Ten on-campus testing locations
A number of free on-campus COVID-19 walk-up testing locations are available to current faculty, staff and students across campus.
Champaign County accounts for nearly 10% of testing in the State of Illinois
Driven largely by the volume of testing at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, Champaign County accounts for nearly 10% of all testing conducted within the state since the beginning of the pandemic, and about 0.5% of all national testing.
