Though students have been napping in various rooms on campus for years, this year the campus is creating the first ever “Finals Nap Room” in Illini Union room 210. From 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 15, students can stop by the room to nap between finals.
The idea for the room came from the Illini Union Board, an advisory board of students. Jaylin McClinton, outgoing president for the board, said the goal is to create a safe, convenient space for students to relax.
“Trying to travel around campus to take a quick nap doesn’t always work,” McClinton said. “This is an opportunity for students to de-stress without having to rush.”
The room can accommodate 20 to 30 students, and spots will be offered on a first come, first served basis. There will be a bag check, a wake-up service and a hot chocolate station. The room will be quiet and arranged with chairs and air mattresses. There will also be disinfecting wipes available. Students are encouraged to bring their own pillow or blanket.
The Illini Union Board is talking about expanding the idea into the spring semester.
