Brandon: “We both frequented that subreddit [r/uiuc] and one time there was a get-together, a meetup where we were just going to watch some movies and both of us were going to go to that.”
Stephanie: “We didn’t talk to each a whole lot during the meetup, but we just watched the movie and parted ways afterwards and that was kind of it. But then the next day, Brandon posted on the subreddit a post that was like ‘I missed your name and number. I’m the guy from Montana, message me if you want to get coffee sometime.’ So we met up and we became friends and eventually started a relationship.
“I was in the library science program and graduated last year and Brandon’s computer science. We probably wouldn’t have met otherwise.”
Brandon: “Steph posted (on reddit) when we got engaged. It won best post of the year for the subreddit.”
After coming to Illinois for graduate school, Brandon Norick and Stephanie Pierson first met at a Reddit meetup (they both frequented the online community) to watch “The Matrix.” Two years later, they got engaged in the gazebo at the U. of I. arboretum in July 2015. Their wedding is scheduled to be held at Silvercreek’s greenhouse in October 2016. Stephanie works at the U. of I. Foundation as a portfolio information manager and Brandon is a Ph.D. student in computer science.
