“Right after graduating and having been dating about a year, Lindsey and I started a long distance relationship (Lindsey in Chicago, Patrik in Barcelona, Spain), even across continents. After that, we decided to move to Estonia together. I was working in the Estonian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and was soon promoted to the position of diplomat of my country and Lindsey got a job in Estonia with the American Chamber of Commerce (in member communication and marketing).
“It was a sign from the very beginning that her birthday happens to be on Estonian Independence Day. February the 24th is always a bright and happy day for both of us.”
After being introduced by mutual friend Melissa Huiner, Patrik Maldre and his wife Lindsey met at Joe’s Brewery when they were both juniors in 2011. They spent several years in Patrik’s native country of Estonia, and moved to Washington, D.C. in 2015. Lindsey’s a Recreation, Sport and Tourism graduate and Patrik double majored in political science and philosophy at Illinois. Both were members of Illinois’ Greek system, with Patrik serving as vice president of Theta Chi and Lindsey at Chi Omega. Lindsey was later selected as the official House Sweetheart for Patrik’s fraternity. They were married in November 2015.
