POSITION SUMMARY:
The GIS (Geospatial Information Systems) Technician supports the International Crane Foundation’s mission by providing GIS support for regional program staff and their projects. The Technician contributes to conservation projects in a collaborative and fun work environment from start to finish. The geospatial team organizes and manages data, designs and implements data collection tools and processes, generates data summaries and analysis, and creates custom maps and visualizations. The projects we work on are vital to the conservation of crane species worldwide.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Support project teams with metadata collection, data preparation, and mapping needs.
- Provide GIS guidance to our global staff who have a mix of GIS knowledge and expertise.
- Respond to data requests from individuals both inside and outside the Foundations.
- Collect GIS project requirements and propose solutions to the project team.
- Assist in developing and implementing GIS project solutions in a team setting.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Geography or related field (e.g., Biology or Ecology) with commensurate GIS experience.
- Experience using ESRI software tools including ArcGIS Pro or other GIS Software
- Strong understanding of GIS concepts and ability to help explain those core concepts to others.
- Ability to research and analyze technical issues to make appropriate decisions and recommendations.
- Effectively communicate technical issues to multiple audiences with mixed degrees of expertise.
- Compose clear, concise correspondence, presentations, training materials, and reports.
- Experience working independently and within a team on special and ongoing projects, being adaptive to critical needs, and sharing expertise as needed.
- Demonstrate respect and sensitivity for others; inspire trust and work with integrity.
- Quickly, effectively, and continually adapt to changes in work environment and duties, processes, and technologies.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience collecting, writing, and maintaining metadata.
- Experience teaching Geographic principles and ESRI applications to users at various levels.
- Experience using creating and maintaining code in Python, R, or SQL

- Ability to operate computers and phones.
- Ability to communicate with fellow staff. Communication will include both written and oral.
- Must be able to remain in a stationary position for 5-7 hours a day.
- Occasionally required to lift and move items up to 20 pounds.
- Occasionally required to move throughout the building and the site.
