Qualifications: Requirements for Entry Level Biologist or Malacologist in Training: Minimum B.S. degree in the Biological Sciences, Environmental Science, or related field Ability to read and interpret resource mapping Experience with technical report writing Excellent verbal and written communication skills Self-motivated, organized, and able to work independently Ability to travel up to 80% of the time during field season (through October 31) SCUBA Certification and/or ability to swim, and comfortably work in aquatic environments, and low visibility conditions. Experience and familiarity with Microsoft Office programs (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.) Requirements for Malacologist All of the above plus the additional requirements below. SCUBA Open Water Diving Certificate and 2+ years diving experience Ability to conduct aquatic surveys independently and manage a team of field biologist and divers Experience with Midwestern freshwater mussel species Have in hand or the ability to obtain Ohio, Pennsylvania, and/or West Virginia qualified surveyor status, state collection permits targeting mussels, and/or federal recovery permit to handle federally listed mussel species Additional background in fisheries, endangered species, herpetology, amphibians, or marine macroinvertebrates Experience with GPS data collection, ArcGIS Online platforms These positions will include travel and some tasks will require strenuous field work.
