Job Responsibilities
40% 1. Receives training for a period of six to twelve months in duration to gain knowledge in, observing, and assisting in analyzing the results of water supply test reports for the Drinking Water Compliance Assurance Section, Division of Public Water Supplies (DPWS), Bureau of Water;
- Utilizing standard scientific principles and procedures, permit conditions, and State and Federal regulations and polices to determine compliance with applicable State and Federal requirements
- Technical and scientific investigations and other activities relative to community water systems and their compliance with State and Federal regulations;
- Developing and preparing technical and scientific reports on data obtained from investigations
- Preparing reports, summaries, and analyses of information compiled in the BOW’s databases, including Safe Drinking Water Information System (SDWIS).
35% 2. Receives training in and observes higher level specialists in developing skills to confer with water suppliers and their consultants regarding operational concerns, laboratory results, and water testing to be utilized in complying with State and Federal rules and regulations for drinking water compliance;
- Assists in reviewing and evaluating technical documents for completeness and accuracy
- Receives training in interpreting and applying technical criteria, policies and regulations relating to compliance with State and Federal regulations.

15% 3. receives training to gain knowledge in explaining and interpreting DPWS programs and policies, and State and Federal laws, rules and regulations;
- In answering technical questions from facility owners/operators,
- Training providers, environmental groups, governmental officials and the general public concerning community water supply statutory and regulatory concerns.
05% 4. Observes, attends and participates in staff meetings, conferences, workshops and other activities;
- Receives training to gain knowledge in the application of the Federal State Drinking Water Act and related DPWS rules, regulations, and standards.
- Travels in performance of duties.
05% 5. Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications
- Requires a bachelor’s degree in some field of the life sciences
- This class is included as an Upward Mobility Program credential title
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
1. Requires ability to prepare comprehensive written and oral reports.
2. Requires ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
3. Requires ability to profit from training received in the designated area of state government.
4. Requires ability to establish and maintain harmonious working relationships with other employees and agency representatives.
5. Requires the ability to utilize a personal computer with knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Access software.
