Responsibilities
Visitor Services & Nature Center
Assist FOVB volunteer docents in welcoming visitors and sharing information about bog educational programs
Learn docent skills through observation and mentorship from FOVB volunteers
Help maintain FOVB records and assist with Friends organization administrative tasks
Environmental Education & Learning
Shadow and learn from experienced FOVB volunteer docents and naturalists
Participate in FOVB volunteer training on bog ecology, wildlife identification, and interpretation
Assist FOVB volunteers with native gardens maintenance
Help with FOVB volunteer activities and Friends-sponsored programs
Learn about rare bog plant communities and wildlife conservation efforts
Digital Communications & Outreach
Create and manage social media accounts for FOVB when required
Develop engaging social media content featuring bog wildlife, seasonal changes, educational programs, and special events
Assist with redesigning and updating the FOVB website
Produce digital newsletters and promotional materials for events and programs
Required Qualifications
Current college student or recent graduate in Environmental Science, Biology, Ecology, Communications, Education, or related field
Strong computer background with demonstrated experience in website design and management
Proficiency with web design platform (Wix is preferred; but any other web design skills are welcome)
Strong social media skills and familiarity with Instagram and Facebook content creation
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Interest in environmental education and natural resource conservation
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Professional demeanor for interacting with diverse visitors
Strong interpersonal skills for communication with visitors, staff, and volunteers
Preferred Qualifications
Previous experience with visitor services or public engagement
Some knowledge of Illinois native plants and ecosystems
Experience with nonprofit organizations
Basic graphic design skills
