General Description
TWS is committed to strengthening and expanding our organization’s work relationships with Native American and Indigenous communities. TWS has developed an intranet site to serve as a resource for TWS staff related to trainings, policies, procedures, best practices, and a searchable database. The information architecture for the site has been created and now there are needs for content development and site management.
Under the supervision of Native Lands Partnerships (NLP) Director Starlyn Miller and in concert with other TWS staff, the intern will research NLP identified topics and provide briefing papers to inform TWS staff. Some of the proposed topics include: Indigenous Knowledge, Food Sovereignty and Land Justice.
In addition, the NLP Intern would play an important role in supporting an inclusive organizational culture that is grounded in trust and accountability to shared goals and outcomes. Under the supervision of Starlyn Miller, the intern would:

- Research and compile information about local and regional Indigenous-led organizations and leadership councils across the nation.
- Identify Indigenous-led organizations the serve women, youth and support the preservation of Indigenous cultural practices.
- Research and compile information on Indigenous led businesses as a resource for TWS staff.
- Assist in the development of TWS’s annual on-line staff survey related to planned and ongoing Native Lands Partnerships work.
TWS has made diversity, equity, and inclusion strategic priorities for the organization and the Native Lands Partnerships Research and Support Intern will integrate these priorities throughout our work. Internally, this means working as a team that listens to different points of view, recognizes the contributions of every employee and empowers each employee to bring their whole selves to work every day. Externally, this means ensuring that public lands are inclusive and welcoming, so that our shared wildlands can help people and nature to thrive. We are committed to equity throughout our work, which we define as our commitment to realizing the promise of our public lands and ensuring that all can share in their universal benefits.
