Description of Work Unit |
This position has a duty station at the Fort Morgan Field Office and serves Adams, Kit Carson, Logan, Morgan, Phillips, Sedgwick, Washington, and Yuma Counties. The Fort Morgan Field Office and staff are supervised by the District Forester located in Fort Collins. As part of a larger district team, this position will periodically assist District Staff at the Fort Collins District Office with general landowner field assistance.

Position Summary |
Under supervision of the Fort Collins District Forester, the position will be the primary localCSFS representative for the following: Plains Forestry Technical Assistance, Urban and Community Forestry assistance and outreach, Conservation Seedling Tree Sales Program, AgroForestry and living snow fence programs, Insect and Disease monitoring and response, Community Wildfire Protection Planning, and FireWise Communities promotion. The position will also provide outreach to landowners and cooperators/partners through frequent public speaking, written, and verbal communication methods. The position will evaluate local forestry needs/opportunities and develop solutions for prioritizing and meeting the needs/opportunities.

Required Job Qualifications |
-A Society of American Foresters (SAF) accredited Baccalaureate or Master’s degree program option is required. -Two years professional forestry experience. -Ability to operate four-wheel-drive and all-terrain vehicles, use and maintain forestry and/or farm equipment, and to perform strenuous outdoor work in a variety of terrain and weather conditions is required. -Successful applicants must have a valid Colorado driver’s license or the ability to acquire one upon employment.

Preferred Job Qualifications |
-4 years professional forestry experience. -Completion of ISA Certified Arborist and Tree Risk Assessment Qualification (TRAQ), or the ability to obtain certification within one year. -Basic knowledge of urban and community forestry activities including: street tree inventories; insect and disease detection, prevention, and suppression; and the Tree CityUSA program. -Basic knowledge of agroforestry practices and techniques in the Great Plains, including living snow fences -Basic knowledge of management of woody invasives in the Great Plains and intermountain west. -Ability to properly plant seedling trees as well as container grown and ball and burlap trees. -Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills. -Previous experience with the development and review of forestry management plans. -Previous experience with managing field staff to ensure safety, provide guidance on completion of daily tasks, and providing input to supervisor for performance evaluation. -Ability to exhibit confidence and competence in presentations. -Comprehension of basic field forestry skills (inventories, topographic map and aerial photography interpretation). -Completion of ATV Operator safety training. -Experience with contracts, agreements, and grant management. -Proficient with the general Microsoft Suite software products, ArcGIS products and GPS unit operation. -Committed to safety, quality, demonstrated excellent customer service ethic and professionalism. -National Wildfire Coordinating Group (NWCG) Firefighter 2. -Current First Aid / CPR certification. -Demonstrated experience with participation on teams, committees and other special assignments. -Knowledge of local conservation education messages and Colorado Firewise and Community Wildfire Protection Planning (CWPP’s), -Ability to effectively communicate with a variety of groups in a variety of settings with a variety of media.
