University of Florida/IFAS Extension, Florida Sea Grant, and Hernando County seek to fill a 12-month, permanent status-accruing Sea Grant Marine Agent position. This position will be based in Hernando County.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
· Sea Grant Marine Extension Agent component.
o Develop, implement, evaluate, and report on a comprehensive Sea Grant extension program in cooperation with industry stakeholders, local citizens, county governments, state and regional agencies, and extension colleagues.
o Focus comprehensive educational programs to address issues and facilitate solutions associated with marine and coastal environmental health, human health, and coastal industries. Important local topics include (but are not limited to) marine and coastal habitat restoration and associated sustainable economic development and recreational opportunities.
o Contribute to important regional extension efforts such as addressing issues related to the effect of water quantity and quality on scallop populations, fisheries and other aquatic animal life; health of coastal environments such as sea grasses and tidal marsh communities; and occurrence of harmful algal blooms and waterborne pathogens that may affect human health.
o Develop extension programs to respond to local emerging issues as needed.
o Contribute to the strengthening of Florida's central west coast economy by supporting commercial and recreational marine sectors.
o Provide regional contributions to UF/IFAS Florida Sea Grant and other extension agents regarding marine education programs. These contributions include aligning programs with the UF/IFAS Extension Roadmap and participating on at least one Florida Sea Grant work action group (https://www.flseagrant.org/program-areas/).
o Provide educational workshops and programs to achieve a balance reflective of the coastal population diversity and to address the unique educational needs of regional stakeholders.
o Participate in collaborative practical and applied research projects associated with his/her area of expertise.
o Serve as project leader for extramural funding that supports the extension program.
General components
o Establish and maintain a system to measure program accountability and effectiveness.
o Provide leadership for the management of all program components including program policies, enrollments and records, risk management, communications, and educational materials.
o Assume other assignments and responsibilities in support of the total extension program as assigned by the County Extension Director and Central District Extension Director.
o Follow all University and Hernando County policies and procedures.

ADVERTISED SALARY: Commensurate with Education and Experience
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: A BS degree is required. Degrees must be from an accredited college or university in marine biology/ecology, fisheries management, oceanography, marine policy, coastal zone management, or a related discipline.
The Agent must be willing to work irregular hours and weekends; occasional overnight travel is required. Must be able to obtain a Florida Driver's license; must be willing to travel using personal transportation. Employment is contingent upon the results of a national background screening. The selected candidate is expected to be an active member of the community.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: A Master's degree is preferred. Knowledge of and experience in restoration of marine and coastal environments is highly desirable. Land grant university extension or equivalent educational programming experience is preferred.
