The Land of Lincoln Chapter of the Solid Waste Association of North America annually provides a scholarship to students enrolled in civil or environmental engineering, biology, geology, environmental studies, environmental science or related studies. The enclosed notice outlines the qualifications for submitting an application for this Chapter Scholarship. This year’s scholarship is $2,500.00. Students that can demonstrate they qualify as member related can receive an additional $500.00.
We are seeking your assistance in circulating this notice to students interested in applying. Applications are to be postmarked no later than April 15, 2016. An application consists of a letter to the chapter and submission of the requested information outlined on the attachment. Applicants will be rated equally on the following four items: (1) their letter to the chapter, (2) how their curriculum relates to the environmental field, (3) their grade point average (in applicable classes and overall), and (4) their involvement in extra-curricular activities.
Students eligible to be considered must have graduated from an Illinois high school or currently be a resident of the State of Illinois. A committee will consider the application and select one student to be awarded the scholarship. SCHOLARSHIP
CRITERIA TO RECEIVE SCHOLARSHIP:
An Illinois resident or graduate of an Illinois High School, majoring in environmental science, engineering or related studies at an accredited college.
Member related bonus – Any student that can demonstrate he/she is related to a current SWANA member is eligible to receive an additional $500.00. Family member includes parent, step parent, sibling or grandparent.
ALL THAT IS NEEDED IS:
1. A letter explaining why you have chosen your particular field of environmental studies.
2. A list of any extra curricular activities in which you are or have been involved.
3. A copy of college transcripts and grades for course work completed to date.
4. Confirmation from registrar’s office as to full time enrollment status and field of study.
