PROGRAM SPECIALIST (Flood Recovery/Restoration): A Temporary, Full-time Position. Pay: $35,000- $45,000. Dates: Start: ASAP.
Location: Lefthand Watershed Oversight Group, Longmont, Colorado.
Qual: • Bachelor's Degree and 1-2 years’ experience working in a professional environment or equivalent. Natural resource, hydrology, environmental planning and GIS experience will be helpful. Understanding of watershed and restoration science desired. • Ability to express compassion in addressing resident and landowner issues. • Excellent skills in interpersonal relationships, organizational effectiveness, and community outreach. • Well organized, self-starter, detail-oriented, and adaptable with the ability to manage both routine and complex tasks simultaneously. • Familiarity with watershed concepts and processes of sediment dynamics and modification of flood plains, channels, and aquatic and riparian habitats as a result of flooding. • Familiarity with Colorado water issues/politics. • Ability to prepare meeting materials and presentations and assist in facilitating meetings. • Writing, presentation and public relations skills. • Ability to work independently, establish work priorities and manage time effectively. • Proficiency in the use of MS Word and Excel, ability to learn new computer applications, with preference given to candidates who have an understanding of geographic information systems (GIS) and their use in watershed planning, and website development and maintenance. • A valid Colorado Driver’s License and ability to pass background check including a good driving record. Must have own vehicle, mileage reimbursement available.
Duties: Primary duties include, but are not limited to, the following: • Provide assistance to the Coordinator in restoration planning and implementation tasks including: Using the Watershed Master Plan to evaluate priority projects in an efficient and compliant manner ensuring collaboration with all stakeholders. Research potential funding sources help develop a strategy to fund project implementation and long term maintenance and monitoring. Track restoration project status during planning, implementation and monitoring phases. • Complete education and outreach tasks including updating website, developing a newsletter, developing a landowner database, organizing outreach and volunteer events, developing an LWOG marketing strategy, and developing an LWOG Membership program. • Assist coordinator in providing landowner assistance including developing a stream stewardship program to educate and inform landowners on appropriate stream stewardship techniques. • Assist coordinator in preparing for and conducting LWOG Board meetings and ensuring compliance with the CDBG-DR Capacity Grant requirements. • Oversee consultants conducting restoration planning and implementation projects, as appropriate.
