Position Summary:
The Illinois Environmental Council Education Fund (IECEF) is looking to build the organizing and outreach capacity of environmental organizations within Illinois.
Major Duties:
- Follow federal climate legislation closely and evaluate its potential impact on Illinois with an emphasis on impacts to frontline, low income, and BIPOC communities.
- Partner with IEC member organizations and stakeholders to create and implement a campaign to ensure Illinois’ Congressional delegation supports and champions federal climate legislation.
- Provide support to junior-level staff at IEC and affiliated organizations.
- Contribute to IEC’s public messaging and serve as the main spokesperson with respect to our federal climate work.
- Coordinate with partner organizations to develop strategies and implement tactics, such as congressional meetings, letters to the editor, action alerts, and other grassroots organizing opportunities.
- Seek out additional funding for climate and organizing work for partner organizations.

City Energy Policy Coordinator

Position Summary:
The Illinois Environmental Council Education Fund (IECEF), and its affiliate the Illinois Environmental Council (IEC), promote sound environmental laws and policies, provide a forum for environmentalists and facilitate a statewide activist network. IECEF engages in legislative monitoring and analysis; outreach, organizing and coalition building; and communication and education. IEC performs legislative advocacy and builds power for people and the environment.
Major Duties:
- Track and analyze climate-related ordinances at the Chicago city council
- Draft, negotiate and pass new climate ordinances
- Build relationships with city council members and city staff
- Develop expertise on technical energy and climate issues that impact the city of Chicago
- Review policies from other cities that could be adopted in the city of Chicago
- Develop relationships with environmental justice and community-based organizations
- Coordinate meetings, take notes and otherwise provide administrative support to any coalitions or other convenings related to city energy policy
- Participate in City of Chicago climate stakeholder working groups and meeting
