The Village of Oak Park has openings for 2016 Summer Seasonal Student Employment. Opportunities are in the Engineering Division (2), Water and Sewer Division (2), Street Services Division (2), Fleet Services Division (2) and Forestry Division (3).
Description of Oak Park:
The Village of Oak Park, Illinois is a thriving, transit-oriented community of about 52,000 people located immediately west of the City of Chicago and known for its great neighborhoods, architectural heritage and innovative public policy initiatives. Within its 4.5 square miles live one of the region's most diverse mixes of cultures, races, ethnicities, professions, lifestyles, religions, ages and incomes.
Oak Park operates under the village manager form of government. An elected legislative board consisting of a president and six trustees set policy and a professional manager oversees the day-to-day administration of government. Village services and programs are delivered by about 370 employees.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities of the Position include, but are not limited to:
The Engineering Division openings consist of construction and sidewalk inspection, data collection and entry, and other engineering related work.
The Water & Sewer Division, Street Services Division and Forestry Division openings consist of heavy manual labor and a variety of semi-skilled construction and maintenance tasks.
One of the Forestry openings consists of assisting professional Forestry staff with projects and contractor oversight. Work includes inspection of completed work, data entry of maintenance activities, tracking of removals and data collection.
The Fleet Services openings consist of picking up parts and equipment, cleaning vehicles and assisting Fleet Services employees with their daily tasks, perform inventory of the Parts Department other miscellaneous duties in the Fleet repair shop.
Minimum and Desired Qualifications with Salary:
Applicants must be at least 18 years old and have a valid driver’s license
Applicants are required to be actively enrolled in a post-secondary academic program
Steel toed boots are also required for all positions
Salary is $12.50 per hour
