HELIX Environmental Planning, Inc. (HELIX), a growing, employee-owned environmental consulting and planning firm, is seeking a motivated Entry Level Biologist for its Roseville or Folsom office. HELIX provides biological resources, landscape architecture, environmental planning, regulatory compliance, habitat restoration, cultural resources, acoustical, air quality, and GIS services to both the public and private sectors.
The entry-level Biologist is a full-time position that will include working independently and collaboratively with other biologists. Responsibilities may include construction monitoring; restoration monitoring; assisting with vegetation mapping, sensitive species surveys, jurisdictional delineations, and other field work; data entry; report writing, and other tasks related to workload requirements. The ideal candidate must be able to work individually as well as part of a team, demonstrate excellent communication and writing skills, including using creativity and analytical skills to develop solutions for unique project challenges. A positive attitude, flexible mindset and adaptability to changing circumstances is imperative.
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in an environmental science, biology, or related field (degree in biochemistry or microbiology not acceptable)
- Intern, volunteer, or research experience (outside of academic requirements) in an environmental, terrestrial biology or related field
- Ability to do strenuous hiking and working in remote areas
- Excellent writing and communication skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel
- Valid California Driver’s License with a clean driving record over the last three years (or if you have an out-of-state license, you will apply for a CA Driver’s License within 10 days of residency in CA).
Additional Skills a Plus
- Experience with construction monitoring and environmental compliance documentation
- Experience conducting flora and/or fauna surveys in Northern California
- Environmental consulting or government agency experience in an environmental capacity
- Experience working on projects that have involved local, state, and/or federal agencies
- Experience with restoration planning and/or monitoring
- Experience using GPS/GIS systems in the field and office
- Possession of permits to survey for federal or state-listed species
- An advanced degree, such as a master’s degree in environmental science, biology or related field
Salary
Hourly wages will be based on qualifications and/or experience, with a robust benefits package. Expected starting pay range of $25.00 to $34.00 per hour.
