Penn State University's Sea Grant program is searching for an experienced, innovative Communications Specialist with strong writing, editing, and social media skills, to create compelling and dynamic content and disseminate information via traditional and new media.
Pennsylvania Sea Grant, a partnership of NOAA, Penn State University, and the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, is dedicated to promoting the ecological and economic sustainability of Pennsylvania's coastal resources through the development of science-based research, education, and extension programs.
A key responsibility of the Communications Specialist is to convey the value of this work to diverse stakeholder audiences, including policymakers, state and local agencies and organizations, and researchers. Other responsibilities will include: reviewing and editing the work of other PASG staff to ensure high quality and consistency of newly developed/revised resources, identifying topics for and writing new releases, and maintaining and updating PASG's website and social media outlets.
Typically requires a Bachelor's degree or higher plus four years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, marketing, or a related discipline is preferred. The successful candidate will have strong writing abilities with demonstrated expertise in developing print communications, good visual design sense, excellent interpersonal and organizational skills, and a customer-centered, problem-solving approach to work. Experience with Drupal, email and social media content management software, and Adobe Connect preferred. Strong project management and excellent interpersonal skills are essential to successfully fulfilling the responsibilities of this position.
Occasional weekend and evening hours may be required. The position is based at PASG's office in Harrisburg, Pa. http://seagrant.psu.edu/ This is a fixed-term appointment funded from one year from date of hire with excellent possibility of re-funding. This is a 75% full-time equivalency (FTE) job. Will work 30-hours per week. Full Penn State benefits included.
