    Job Summary

    Youth Conservation Corps (YCC) is a summer program designed to employ high school youth in natural resources related projects. YCC Crew Leader implements conservation/development projects for purposes of conserving and improving the County’s natural resources while teaching the principles of employment, conservation, environmental awareness, and construction. These projects may include trail clearing, wildlife habitat restoration, prairie management, river clean-up, and construction of elementary structures such as board walks, retaining walls, and steps. 


    Essential Functions & Experience

    Essential Functions -

    Supervises YCC high school youth in various conservation/development projects.  Maintains a safe work environment through hazard recognition and implementation of safety guidelines.  Completes reports and paperwork as assigned.  Works under supervision of the District staff on landscape, natural resource and construction projects.  Drives a motorized vehicle to travel to different locations.  Performs tasks that will require walking, bending, stooping, standing, kneeling, climbing, reaching and sitting.  Performs heavy lifting tasks up to 50 pounds.
    Experience -

    High School graduate or equivalent. Pursuing an environmental-related education or career preferred.  Must be at least 18 years of age.  Experience working with high school students in a supervisory capacity.  Experience in conservation and/or construction projects, which includes the ability to use power and hand tools.  Ability to interpret construction plans.  Ability to communicate both orally and in writing.  Must possess a valid motor vehicle driver's license.
