Job Title: Field Technician I, NGRREC (Seasonal)

Organizational Unit: NGRREC-Terrestrial Ecology
Position Reports To (Title): Assistant Scientist
Scope of Position: Assist the National Great Rivers Research and Education Center (NGRREC) in collecting ecological field data in large river floodplains, riparian zones and adjacent areas. The individuals in these positions will participate in a variety of field and laboratory research activities, providing day-to-day support for NGRREC scientists, visiting scholars, and research equipment.
Key Measurable Expectations:
- Serve as a field technician in support of NGRREC’s various research and monitoring programs
- Assist in the establishment of ecological research and monitoring plots in vegetation communities characteristic of large river floodplains, riparian zones, wetlands, and adjacent areas
- Collect field data related to vegetation, animals, soils, and associated environmental characteristics
- Maintain awareness of and compliance with NGRREC Standard Lab/Field Safety and Responsibilities
- Operate field equipment as required
- Assist with invasive species control and other activities at nature preserves
- Enter data into computerized databases and/or spreadsheets
- Overnight travel may be required
Minimum Qualifications:
- Progress towards a degree in forestry, ecology, biology, environmental science, soil science, or a related field
- Knowledge of basic plant identification and inventory techniques in natural vegetation communities
- Knowledge of basic animal ecology
- Physical ability to work outdoors in rough terrain (including areas where venomous snakes are present) and all-weather conditions
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
- Physical ability to lift 25 lbs.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Physical ability to drive a vehicle towing a trailer and operate small watercraft
Physical Demands: Lifting (identify indicate minimum lbs requirement) - 25lbs, additional items (identify) - Moderate hiking in a variety of terrain
Work Hours: Monday-Friday, 8:00-4:30 , Some Evenings , Some Weekends

- This position is a temporary, seasonal position supported by contractual/grant funding and is not eligible for the College’s team member benefit package.
