Job Description:
This position leads efforts in wildlife ecology and wildlife habitat planning for Southern Lower Michigan and is a member of the statewide Wildlife Habitat Planning team. In collaboration with the SE and SW regional staff, and other agencies and partners, this position is responsible for helping place habitat work into an adaptive management framework. The position provides technical expertise on habitat assessment and planning, habitat data management, habitat-species relationships, and habitat and species monitoring at a variety of geographic scales using established monitoring protocols, GIS, and spatial applications. This position collaborates with all four Regions statewide on the development and implementation of Wildlife and State Game Area Master Plans. The employee collaborates closely with other land and resource management Divisions, other Departments, Federal agencies, and non-governmental organizations on wildlife habitat issues at multiple geographic scales. This position is also responsible for representing the Division on workgroups and committees that focus on habitat planning and management.
Required Education and Experience:
- Education: Possession of a bachelor's degree in natural resource science or biological science with at least 8 semester (12 term) credits in wildlife biology and 16 semester (24 term) credits in one or a combination of the following: botany, ecology, ecosystem management, entomology, natural resources GIS applications, mammalogy, ornithology, wildlife management, zoology, conservation biology, human dimensions of fish and wildlife management, evolutionary biology, forest resources, environmental science, or natural resources law and policy.
- Experience: Three years of professional experience carrying out wildlife biologist assignments equivalent to a Wildlife Biologist, including one year equivalent to a Wildlife Biologist P11 or a Research Biologist P11 with wildlife emphasis.
