Salary: $15/hour
Availability: ASAP continuing for up to one year
Location: Champaign, Illinois
Primary Function: Assist the ISWS Sediment Laboratory Analyst by performing various duties as needed: prepare samples for analysis, prepare supplies and material for analytical methods, washing bottles/caps, taring bottles/glass filters, data entry, and general laboratory upkeep.
Job Description: Responsibilities include assisting the Sediment Analyst in performing sediment lab methods (suspended sediment concentration and particle size distribution) through preparation of supplies and materials needed to perform methodologies, weighing/taring glass filters, data entry, measuring specific conductivity; washing plastic & glass bottles/caps used to collect water samples, perform QA/QC on bottles, moving and stacking bottle cases in storage area, data entry, and/or other general assistance as requested by Sediment Analyst and Laboratory Manager.
Qualifications: Major in a physical sciences field required, major in an earth science field preferred. Any previous laboratory experience preferred. Require at least 1 year previous work experience that successfully demonstrates ability to be accurate, reliable, timely, punctual, and work somewhat independently. Require experience with spreadsheet software - prefer Microsoft Excel. Ability to lift and carry cases of glass bottles full of water (~40 pounds) is also required. Work Schedule: The position is up to 36 hours per week during the summer; flexible during academic year. All working hours are flexible between 8:30am-4:30pm, Monday-Friday.
