The Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago is in search of a current college student seeking an internship opportunity in its Monitoring and Research (M&R) Department.
This internship will provide the prospective intern with training on the issuance of wastewater discharge permits, reviewing spill prevention and containment plans, flow measurement proposals, and wastewater monitoring reports to assist in the interpretation and administration of the Sewage and Waste Control, User Charge, Resource Recovery and Environmental Remediation Wastewater Ordinances. The intern will also gain experience classifying industrial users, enforcing local federal wastewater pollutant standards, conducting site inspections, and preparing assignment responses. They will also work with technical staff to learn the District’s critical role in wastewater management and environmental protection.
Qualifications must include:
Applicants must possess strong analytical, computing, and oral/written communication skills; be a current college student majoring in civil or environmental engineering, natural or environmental sciences, or computer science; have a current residence in Cook County, IL; be a U.S. citizen, an alien lawfully admitted for permanent residence, or alien authorized by the Department of Homeland Security to work in the U.S.; and the ability to obtain a referral from the schools Internship Coordinator or a letter of recommendation from a college professor.
