This is a part-time position (approximately 25 hours per week) available from late May to early August. The primary work location is at the Museum of the Grand Prairie at Lake of the Woods Forest Preserve in Mahomet. The starting rate for this position is $11.38/hour.
Job Duties:
- Assist with Garden, Archaeology, Grand-Prairie Kids, and other summer day camps by preparing and assembling materials for use in programs and setting up/breaking down the classroom
- Assist with classroom management and lead subsections of day camps
- Conduct other educational programs and events, both formal and informal, for youth and adults
- Assist with daily operation of the Museum of the Grand Prairie
- Assist with special events and public programs, including school field trips and homeschool programs
- Perform other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications:
- Experience working with children
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Ability to work outdoors in all conditions, which may include periods of prolonged standing, extreme heat or cold, or rain
- Ability to hike through Preserves and lift items up to 50 pounds to carrying height
- Valid drivers license required
- Must be available to work occasional weekends and evenings
Preferred Qualifications:
- College-level coursework in History, Natural Resources, Horticulture, Botany, Education, or related field
- Experience in environmental education, interpretation, gardening, and/or natural resources management
- General knowledge of central Illinois cultural history is also helpful
