Job Description: Sangamon County Soil & Water Conservation District (SWCD) is accepting applications for a joint position with the IL Department of Natural Resources for the Illinois Recreational Access Program (IRAP) Coordinator in Springfield, IL.
This full-time staff position will work closely with the IRAP Manager and other staff at the IL Department of Natural Resources to implement the IL Recreational Access Program. this position will aid private landowners in assessing and implementing habitat management projects and to allow for public access for activities such as turkey, deer, waterfowl, and small game hunting; fishing, non-motorized boat access and other outdoor recreational activities on their private land. This position coordinates with a variety of Federal, State, and local agencies and not-for-profit conservation groups to allow public access on private land for specific outdoor recreational activities as outlined in the goals of the USDA VPA-HIP grant for the Illinois Recreational Access Program.
Job Qualifications: Requires a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in a Natural Resources field, with a concentration in wildlife biology, ecology, botany or related field, plus two years of experience in wildlife management or a related field. Strong interest in and knowledge of biology, ecology and management of various Illinois game species and their habitat requirements, and habitat management techniques is essential. Knowledge of game and fish management programs, field survey equipment, techniques and procedures. Knowledge of forest management and best management practices for habitat restoration. Must be proficient with a variety of computer software applications including ArcView/ArcGIS/ArcMap. MS Access, MS Word, MS Excel and MS Power Point. Knowledge of GPS equipment and land survey techniques. The ability to work efficiently and effectively with others within and outside the agency (i.e. USFWS, NWTF, IDNR, SWCDs, etc) as well as independently, and can prioritize a heavy and varied workload. Possess effective organizational, written and verbal skills. Requires ability to travel within the State. Occasional overnight stays may be required.
Work hours are 8 am-4:30 pm, M-F. Job includes both office and field work. Requires possession of valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and vehicle insurance coverage always. Mandatory security background check, with fingerprinting, required on the selected applicant
