Job Description:
We are hiring one technician to assist in collecting field
data at state parks in Indiana. This is a collaborative
project between Purdue University and the Hardwood
Tree Improvement & Regeneration Center (HTIRC). The
technician will work alongside a graduate student to
assess the regeneration characteristics of areas with and
without ash in the overstory. Eight state parks will be
visited to resample plots established in 1996/97 and
remeasured in 2010/11. In addition to biological data, the
field crew will collect site physiographic data and canopy
cover estimates using fisheye photography. Basic
knowledge of proper field techniques and field safety is
required. Applicants must have a valid driver’s license.
Requirements:
➢ Woody plant species identification skills
➢ Must be able to work outdoors in rough terrain with biting insects and stinging plants
➢ Must be able to work in a variety of weather conditions, including high temperatures
and inclement weather
➢ Must be able to work safely for up to 10 hours a day
➢ Must be able to hike on and off trail and carry a pack up to 30 pounds
➢ Must be willing to camp at state parks during the work week
