Position Title: Staff Forester II
Location: College Station, Texas
Salary: $40,000/year min. + benefits
Start Date: As soon as suitable candidate is identified
Major/essential duties of job: This position would be responsible for assisting FRD Division leaders and program managers develop synergy between programs; assist in the development, coordination and execution of project grants; assist in developing innovative tools and technologies for advancing the agency’s mission; work with current agency partners and develop new partners to increase natural resource advocacy, address state and regional issues and assist in identifying priorities for forest conservation programming.
Occasional duties: Promote the image of the TFS through community and professional activities. Other duties as assigned.
Work experience (months, years) and skills required: Must have strong writing, verbal and communication skills. A working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs and basic knowledge of Microsoft Access and ArcView/ArcMap.
Educational qualifications/training required: Applicant should possess a bachelor’s degree in forest management (or very closely related degree) and preferably an advanced degree in technical writing, English, communications, or marketing. The candidate should exhibit strong communication and writing skills. Must have valid Texas driver's license or be able to obtain one within 30 days of employment, with record within Agency standards.
Working Conditions: Routine office work but this job may require exposure to harsh environmental conditions such as wind, sunlight, rain, and temperature extremes. It may also require walking long distances, standing for extended periods, twisting, bending, reaching, kneeling, lifting and carrying heavy objects. Job stress can be frequent when confronted with deadlines of various projects, frequent travel, long hours, and adverse weather conditions.
Comments (typing speed, hours of work, etc.): In some cases overtime work may be necessary as well as overnight travel with some outdoor work.
