Position Description and Application Information
The Natural Resources Group monitors vegetation on the Idaho National Laboratory (INL) Site to assess Greater sage-grouse habitat and update Long-term Vegetation Survey, one of the oldest maintained sagebrush steppe vegetation datasets. Multiple ecological internship positions are available for full-time or recent graduate students with a minimum 3.0 GPA who are seeking to gain or develop field experience.
Paid positions are temporary, full-time between 13 to 14 weeks in length. The start date is May 16, 2022. Interns will report to our Idaho Falls office between 4:30 – 6:30 am., Monday – Thursday for ten-hour shifts. Field work will be conducted on the INL Site which covers nearly 900 square miles of sagebrush steppe on the Snake River Plain 45 miles west of Idaho Falls, ID.
Successful Interns will gain or develop skills:
- Conducting vegetation surveys
- Collecting and managing field data
- Plant Identification
- Recording GPS data
- Operating 4WD vehicles
- Accessing remote off-trail plots
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
INL internships include a nationally competitive wage that is based on the number of credits completed, combined with the degree program. Eligible interns are provided holiday pay, and many of our internships offer travel reimbursements along with a generous housing stipend.
