Hourly Pay Rate:
The hourly pay range for this position is $19.6524 - $21.6722 (DOQ). This is a 12-week, limited-term, grant funded position.
Brief Description of Duties:
Under the general direction of the Environmental Supervisor, assists the Environmental Health staff in the operation of the vector surveillance and control program, enforces state and local laws and ordinances related to public health. Conducts ongoing surveillance, control, and prevention activities for mosquitoes, ticks, rodents, nuisance birds, and other potential vectors of human disease; Conducts surveillance of animals that provide a reservoir for disease producing organisms; Conducts tasks related to West Nile Virus (WNV) source reduction such as identifying, documenting and/or remediating sources of standing and/or stagnant water; Responds to inquiries, investigate complaints, conduct evaluations, and provide technical consultation to help reduce or eliminate public health hazards and nuisance conditions associated with vectors of human disease; and conduct training activities for Skokie area agencies and organizations to promote integrated pest management of human disease vectors; Identify and document discarded tires, cans, plastic containers, ceramic pots and other unused similar water-holding containers on private and commercial properties; Provides public education regarding the importance of reducing or eliminating sources of mosquito breeding and exposure to mosquitoes; Collects, inputs, and analyzes data; Conducts food service investigations to identify and control non-mosquito vectors such as mice and/rats.
Required Education, Training and Experience:
Must be 18 years old prior to beginning employment; Must possess a valid driver’s license. Must be a student actively pursuing a Bachelor or Master’s degree in Environmental Health, Public Health, or other science related field; Understand and apply basic entomology and pest control principles; Able to effectively use Microsoft Office Suite software; Ability to communicate effectively and courteously with co-workers and the public; Must follow all safety rules and regulations of the Village; Performs other work-related duties, as required.
