Receptionist & Animal Care Attendant

Pay Rate: $8.50-$9/hour
General Description/Essential Functions:
The receptionist answers phones, direct calls to appropriate staff, greets visitors, performs clerical, secretarial, sales and light maintenance duties. The animal care attendant cares for education animals and exhibit wildlife. This includes handling, feeding, and enclosure maintenance for sankes, turtles, owls, and outdoor wildlife feeding areas.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or G.E.D.
- Excellent communication skills
- High initiative
- Detail oriented
- Clerical and computer experience
- Animal care experience
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Answer phones and direct calls to appropriate staff
- Greet the public and program participants; provide information as needed
- Conduct transactions through the ACTIVEnet computer program system
- Setup and take down of tables, chairs and other program equipment
- Assist with filing, inventory, and other clerical duties as assigned
- Conducts sales for Audubon gift shop
- Feed education wildlife and clean enclosures; follow strict medication schedules and instructions; maintain and clean a neat exhibit and work environment
- Assist with facility opening and closing duties
- Perform light maintenance/custodial duties
- Follow all Urbana Park District policies, procedures, and safety rules
- Other duties as assigned
Scheduling:
Days, Evenings and Weekends - hours vary but must be available for morning animal cara & Saturday reception shift
Generally staff will work 5-15 hours per week reception and 3-7 hours per week animal care attendant; will be scheduled for some of the following:
Animal Care (2-4 times per week): M-F 7:45-9:30am, Sunday shift is flexible
Reception (2-5 times per week): M-F 8am-12pm, 12pm-2pm, 2pm-5pm
Saturday (approx. 2 times per month) 9am-4pm
Some additional daytime and evening hours as needed
