My name is Logan Ebeling, NRES graduate, Class of 2017. I currently work for the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in Chicago. I am reaching out because I wanted to notify you of positions the FDA recently posted on USAJobs, specifically available to Recent Graduates. This is a good opportunity for students that graduated within the past two (2) years or those who are scheduled to graduate within the next 9 months (06/18/2023) to apply, since the posting is exclusively open to these recent graduates.
The position posted is my current role, titled Consumer Safety Officer (CSO). CSOs with FDA’s Office of Regulatory Affairs conduct inspections and investigations at manufacturers of FDA regulated products, including food, drug, cosmetic, medical devices, tobacco products and more. These positions posted may be within any of these regulated industries, so if someone is interested in any of these areas, I would encourage them to apply.
The positions are located in many major metro areas across the country, including NYC, Chicago, Minneapolis, Indianapolis, Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, Dallas, Houston, Denver, many Californian cities, and more.
The positions start at GS-7, and are “ladder” positions to GS-12, meaning staff typically advance one grade per year, as follows: 7/9/11/12. The salary increases rather quickly, to about $80-90,000 after just the 3rd year. The salary listed on the posting will be lower than it most likely actually is, since it represents the “Rest of US” rate. Many metro areas have locality increases. Salary tables can be found at:

Here are the postings, they are identical except for the locations. The recent graduates should apply to both if they’re interested in locations in both postings.

Some tips for anyone who may be interested that you can pass along:
* USAJobs has a “resume builder” built in, I would recommend using this in lieu of, or in addition to, submitting a PDF resume
* Read the application instructions and eligibility requirements very closely
* When answering questions about previous experience, be generous. Compare your experience to an average person, not other professionals in the field
Feel free to let the applicants know they’re more than welcome to reach out to me with questions about the process. You can share my personal email if you’d like, logane7@gmail.com.
