Seasonal Park Maintenance – General, Forestry, Horticulture
The Downers Grove Park District is accepting applications for Seasonal Parks Maintenance. With over 48 parks meticulously maintained to support the community’s use, the successful candidate is someone who eagerly desires to learn a broad spectrum of parks maintenance. Reporting to the Parks Superintendent, this individual helps support athletic complexes, 34 ball diamonds, 30 soccer fields, an artificial turf football field, 24 playgrounds, a miniature golf course, two fishing ponds, a community bandshell, five Park District recreational facilities, walking paths, natural areas, and a 9-hole golf course.
Pay rate: $10.00 - $12.00 per hour, depending on qualifications.
Hours
· Typical hours are Monday to Friday 7am to 3:30pm from April 1 to October 31.
· Applicants must be flexible to work some weekends, evening, and/or special events.
Essential Functions
· Assists the on-going parks maintenance activities and special events.
· Performs skilled labor in connection with maintenance and construction at District parks and facilities including open space, buildings, structures, roads, paths, parking lots, nursery, landscaping and special facilities.
· Using District owned equipment, maintains turf, performs repairs, and transports materials.
· Operates small power tools and mowers.
· Cares for and maintains lawn (turf), trees, shrubs, and flowers.
· Assists with the installation and maintenance of athletic fields, play equipment, irrigation, drinking fountains, etc.
· Assists in the repair of park equipment and facilities.
· Follows District safety rules and procedures.
· Other duties as assigned.
· Job may be modified at any time.
Requirements
· Able to work outdoors in changing weather conditions, with insects and pollen.
· Must be able to lift and move 50 pounds.
· Familiarity with small engines, mowers, and power tools preferred.
· Possess a valid class (D) license.
· Minimum of 18 years of age.
· Good communication and interpersonal skills.
· Knowledge of Downers Grove Park District area is preferred.
· Appropriate clothing and steel toe boots are required for this position and not supplied by the Downers Grove Park District.
