Under direct supervision of the Compliance and Reporting Unit Manager, Waste Reduction and Compliance Section (WRCS), in the Bureau of Land (BOL), participates in an Agency sponsored training program up to twelve months in duration, receiving training and work assignments designed to develop knowledge, understanding and practical skills consonant with various professional life sciences career disciplines with the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency; receives controlled assignments in a broad range of beginning level professional duties related to coordinating routine technical and scientific waste collection events including: electronics recycling, recycling, composting, and materials management activities. Receives training to gain knowledge in compiling thorough collection of data/results related to materials management programs administered or overseen by WRCS; and in utilizing databases/spreadsheets to produce routine technical and scientific reports, graphs, charts, letters, memos, and statistics to document and support WRCS activities. Receives training to assist higher level specialists with reviewing waste reduction program applications, processing of program budgets, payment requests, vouchers, and agreements; developing and providing general waste reduction, recycling, composting, and other materials management information on relevant environmental matters to facilities, the general public, governmental agencies, and others outside the Agency. Attends, observes, and participates in community meetings and trainings; gains knowledge and remains current and informed on emerging waste reduction techniques; interpreting applicable laws, rules, regulations, policies, procedures and objectives of existing and emerging waste reduction/recycling/collection activities.
