  • Sheth Distinguished Alumni Lecture series returns April 24 with leading global chemist Taeghwan Hyeon

    Taeghwan Hyeon a pioneering chemist and researcher in the field of nanoscience and the recipient of the 2025 Madhuri and Jagdish N. Sheth International Alumni Award for Exceptional Achievement will deliver the 2025 Sheth Distinguished Alumni Lecture later this month at the Illini Union.

  • 2025 International Achievement Award recipients announced

    The University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and Illinois International named Taeghwan Hyeon (Seoul National University), Sharifa Sultana (Illinois), Colby Silvert (University of Maryland), Illinois graduate student Mehrdad Mohammadi, and Illinois undergraduate student David Mock as the recipients of the 2024-2025 International Achievement Awards.

  • Mabokela becomes 1st U.S. scholar appointed to Kyushu University Management Policy Council

    Prof. Reitumetse Obakeng Mabokela, the associate chancellor and vice provost for Global Affairs & Strategies at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, became the first U.S. scholar appointed to the Management Policy Council at Kyushu University, one of Illinois’ strategic partners.

  • University of Illinois System/UNAM Joint Research Partnership Program - Call for Proposals

    The University of Illinois System and the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM) have established a joint seed research grants program for one year, including the academic year 2025-2026. This program will fund projects in three thematic areas: Food and Health; Water; Energy. The overarching goal is to contribute towards solving problems related to Poverty, the Environment, and Sustainable well-being.

  • Transdisciplinary grant funds wayfinding, place making program for Illinois students

    This is the second story in a series highlighting two projects funded by the Global South Community-Based Learning Programs grant. The first story detailing transdisciplinary approaches was published on November 11, 2024, and can be found on the Illinois International blog. This story is about "Place Making and Rural Tourism in China," which is a program comprised of three interdisciplinary courses— ARCH 572, ARTD 499, and RST 594/199.

    The IGlobal Program at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign received the 2025 NAFSA: Association of International Educators Senator Paul Simon Spotlight Award for Campus Internationalization.  

  • Student Spotlight: Thomas Sanders shares internship abroad experience, journey

     If there was a person who embodied age-old sayings like, “never second-guess yourself,” or “don’t hold yourself back,” then that person would be none other than Thomas Sanders.  


    But why is Sanders, who is an advertising major at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, the personification of all these phrases that advisors have been saying since the dawn of time?  

    The answer is simple — Sanders proved that sometimes all it takes to kick open the door of opportunity and pursue opportunities that interest you is to just say, “Hi.”

  • Illinois alumna talks career, transformative experiences during inaugural speaker series

    Annie Jones, a 2017 Illinois graduate and 2024 recipient of the Charles C. Stewart International Young Humanitarian Award, was the guest speaker for the first-ever International Young Humanitarian Speaker Series “Fireside Chat,” that took place on Nov. 21 inside the Women’s Resource Center (WRC).

  • BRIDGE Seed Fund: Call for Proposals from Permanent Faculty and Research Staff

    In collaboration with the University of Birmingham, the BRIDGE Seed Fund is now accepting proposals for the 2025-2026 academic year. Permanent faculty and research staff members at each institution may submit applications for funding.
