Global Professional Spotlight Series

The Global Professional Spotlight Series of workshops focuses on the transition of an international student from being an international student to a professional in the U.S. The series is designed to help students understand the journey of other international students who have been absorbed into the U.S. workforce. This series will help international students understand the global professional’s job search process.
This series spotlights a career field and helps students understand the field and its opportunities from the perspective of a working professional. An invited panel of U.S. working professionals who were international students will be invited to share their experiences. Interested in applying for the Career Certificate - International Students (CC-I) program in Fall 2022? Want to be the International Student Career Navigators?
Join our Final Info Session (In-Person): Wednesday, September 14, 5 p.m. – 6 p.m. The Career Center. RSVP on Handshake
The CC-I program is a unique and innovative nine-week program dedicated to the career and professional development of international students. This program has been offered by The Career Center since Fall 2012 and received the Services to International Students award, a national award presented by the National Career Development Association in 2016.

Consider becoming an International Student Career Navigator. As a Navigator, you will be a peer advisor, facilitate CC-I programs, and have input into the design and implementation of career development programs.
Navigators for Fall 2022 do not need to have completed the CC-I program in the past.

You are invited to join the Global Career Network a forum for international student serving RSOs to advance the career development of the international student community at Illinois through collaboration, networking, and engagement through The Career Center. The GCN meets monthly to develop career and professional development programming and enhance communication between campus partners. Students do not have to be affiliated with an RSO to join this meeting.

The Returning Home / Global Careers Series of workshops is designed for students who are interested in careers in their home country or abroad. Learn about opportunities in a specific field from a thought leader from that country who would share insights about the field and offer their perspective on the transitions necessary for someone preparing to work in that country after having lived in the U.S.
Since 2014, the Global Careers series has highlighted careers and job markets in various countries including:

A History of Chinese Students and Scholars at the University of Illinois

Ian Wang and Yingying Han will be discussing the history of Chinese students and scholars at the University of Illinois. With a focus on Edmund James efforts to start the UI-China educational initiative- Wang and Han will present their new findings of their research. As well as the creation of a new online exhibit to be published in the near future.
