In 2016-17, there have been a great number of changes in immigration policies and rules, from the expansion of work authorizations for certain international students in the Summer of 2016, to the temporary entry and visa issuance suspension for certain countries citizens in January and March of 2017, to the temporary suspension of expedited employment visa processing in April of 2017. International Student and Scholar Services, in collaboration with other offices and units across campus, has been at the forefront of explaining and disseminating this information around campus, in addition to assisting those affected where possible.
The University has developed the Supporting Our University Community webpage, where information and resources regarding changes in immigration policies and rules are gathered. An Administrative Working Group on Immigration has been assembled to monitor developments in Washington, share information across campus, and advise senior leadership on appropriate actions and communications in response to the evolving policies and procedures that may affect anyone on the Illinois campus.
ISSS will continue to support and advocate for Illinois' international population and the University throughout whatever changes may come in the future.
