Matt is a senior triple-majoring in political science, Spanish and French. He studied abroad in San Joaquín, Costa Rica; Paris, France; and Cotonou, Benin; and has also taught English in Azerbaijan and Morocco.
Matt’s varied experiences in Costa Rica included instruction at an institute for international students, an internship as an English and French language teaching assistant, an academic excursion to Panama and cultural immersion by living with a host family. He also completed many requirements for his Spanish major through the six courses that he took at the institute.
“In my classes, I learned about all of Latin America, not just Costa Rica. I really enjoyed this broad curriculum because it complemented my out-of-classroom experiences. It was interesting to learn about migration as a global phenomenon in the context of prevalent economic migration to Costa Rica. Both my coursework and the conversations that I had with locals sparked an interest in this topic that I could see translating into my future career path.”
