This month we welcome summer—and hopefully a slower pace for a few weeks—here in Champaign-Urbana and enjoy the warmer temperatures and long sunny days. In this edition of the Alumni Update, we reflect on the many accomplishments of this past spring semester. It was wonderful to recently announce a new, transformational fellowship that will support a doctoral student for three years of work: the Sarah McCarthey Doctoral Fellowship. A special thank you to Dr. McCarthey for this incredible, visionary gift to the College!
If you missed our recent State of the College address with Education Dean James D. Anderson, please take a few minutes to view the recording at the College’s YouTube channel. Dean Anderson addressed many of the challenges and opportunities facing the field of education today, broadly, as well as many recent accomplishments within the College of Education at Illinois.
Speaking of him, as we approach Dr. James “Doc” Anderson’s official retirement date it’s fair to say that if you’re paying attention, you will see many stories shared in print and online that honor his truly remarkable career of scholarship and achievements, dedication to mentorship, and contributions to the field of education and to the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. Anderson’s steady leadership and wisdom will be greatly missed by all who know and love him.
Please mark your calendars to join us for a celebration of his career this fall, October 27–29, 2022. Watch for more information in the coming months inviting everyone back to campus to celebrate his commitment to championing top-notch, diverse, equitable, and inclusive teaching and learning experiences for students in higher education.
We look forward to celebrating with many of you in October!
Yours in Orange and Blue,
