One week ago, the Fall 2023 semester on the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign campus officially began. We welcome the new academic year and everything it has in store, and we welcome you to join us for many opportunities to reconnect with your alma mater this fall!
We launch our events this semester with the 19th Annual Goldstick Family Lecture. Each year, we host and highlight a scholar in the area of communication disorders. This year’s lecture will feature Dr. Susan Johnston from the University of Utah on September 21 at the Beckman Institute, and will also be livestreamed for those who cannot make it back to campus.
Illinois Homecoming activities are scheduled for the week of October 15-21, 2023, with the theme "Sweet Home Illini". Homecoming is always a great time to visit campus with family and friends, so please reach out to the Advancement Office soon to schedule a time to tour our building or chat about the latest news or Homecoming 2023 events.
In this issue of Alumni Update, we celebrate an award-winning alumni and innovative program—and their contributions to the field of education. You will read about Tyrone Williams, Jr., the 2023 Illinois History Teacher of the Year and his work as a high school history educator. We also celebrate the award-winning iGlobal program and the recognition it received this summer. The program invites middle school classrooms, globally, to collaborate worldwide and trains future educators on cultivating a global teaching perspective.
As the semester moves ahead, we look forward to sharing new opportunities for supporting the College of Education to impact the field in exciting and meaningful ways. More specifics to come!
Yours in Orange and Blue,
