As the Assistant Dean for Advancement, it was an honor to recognize the Class of 2025 as the College of Education’s newest alumni at this year’s Convocation Ceremony on May 18. Looking out on the sea of orange and blue robes, what struck me was the countless rows of loved ones sitting behind our graduates, cheering them on. The Illinois pride runs wide and deep within our alumni, faculty, friends, and family.
Our 35,000+ living alumni and donors were not all able to attend Convocation this year, obviously—not even close. However, your presence is truly felt throughout this season as we reflect on achievements. It is a rare Education graduate that has not been assisted by the financial or professional support of our alumni and donors. Whether you are able to donate $10 annually or $100,000 during your lifetime, every dollar is critical to College of Education student success and we are grateful for your generosity.
Several of the stories in this newsletter highlight the significance that professional mentoring and financial support have in terms of exponential impact. We’re extremely thankful for forward-thinkers and investors in the future of education like Keith Slaughter and Richard C. Anderson.
This summer, we are spending time to look ahead and plan Fall 2025 events for our Education at Illinois alumni and friends. Please mark Illinois Homecoming Week (September 21 - 27) on your calendar, as well as University of Illinois Foundation Weekend (October 31-November 1). The College is planning activities for you to reconnect and engage with your Alma Mater on those dates. More information to come later this summer!
Yours for Illinois,
Heather Zorn
